MODESTO BEE

Author signs adventure story BEE STAFF REPORTS (Published: Sunday, July 09, 2000)

Joseph C. Taylor, a former medical researcher and high school science teacher from Hanford, started writing adventure stories to help his students "understand and appreciate the excitement and daily application of science." His latest adventure story is "The Disappearance of Summer Solstice." Taylor will sign copies of the book from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Borders in Modesto.

The book, published by The 1stBooks Library, tells the story of Summer Solstice, a teen-ager who disappears with friends while on a hike. They are catapulted into the "farthest realms of the known universe." There they struggle to survive as they confront earthquakes, volcanic eruption, uncontrollable disease and beasts of prey. They become prisoners in the future, unable to return to their own time. Taylor will also make appearance at area schools Friday where he will be giving inspirational talks.
